In this lesson we were introduced to dynamics & particle systems purposed for design processes.
The outcome from these workshops will be a series of design experiments
using Cinema 4D
In this lesson, we:
1. Set up Work Folders
2. Create modifiers for design purposes
3. Create materials & Environments
3. Create Particles Systems
4. Create Dynamics Systems
5. Render Artwork from experiments
1. Create a project folder
Project Name
C4d (C4d, texture images)
Artwork (illustrator, photoshop,)
Output (Images, Movies)
2. Twisted Geometry
Pen Button / Create a Rectangle / XY axis
Extrude object / add the rectangle to this
Extrude / Movement / Z=5000
Subdivision = 50 / iso subdiv =10
Caps tab / Switch to None
3. Add a Twist Object
Into Extrude below rectangle
Mode = Unlimited / Angle = 10deg
Size = 250 x 250 x 250
Coord. / Rotation P = 90deg
4. Create a material
Luminance only / Texture / Surface
Add Checkerboard
Black & White / U = 0 / V = 40
Add to Extrusion
5. Select Rectangle
Intermediate Points / change to Subdivision
This should smooth material
6. Create a Sphere
Rad = 40 / Coord / pos. Z=500
Rot. P=30 deg / B=40 deg
7. Create a Material
Luminance only / Texture / Surface
Add Checkerboard
Red & White / Freq. V=10
Add Reflectance to material
Add... / Reflection (Legacy)
Layer Colour / Texture / Fresnel
8. Add a Camera
Coord / Pos. 0 x 0 x 0
9. Render Settings
Output / size = 1000x1000 / dpi=300
Single frame / save / jpg / 95%
Anti-Aliasing / from Geometry to Best
Name & Destination / Render
10. Add Ambient Occlusion
Render again
11. Add Lights
Add a Star shape / inner = 100 / outer = 200
Points = 5 / Axis = XY
Replace Rectangle / Render
12. Add Particles
Simulate / Particles / Emitter
Coord / Pos. Z=70
Particle tab / Stop Emission = 200f
Speed = 200cm / Rotation = 360deg
Tick Show Objects & instances
Emitter tab ./ X&Y size = 60deg
Add the Sphere to Emitter
13. Play Timeline to simulate
Stop timeline / Render view
Adjust to suit / Render
